My pregnancy journey with Jodee started just after my 12 week scan. I had met Jodee at the Baby expo and after reading Gabrielle Targett’s book “Labour of Love” I was convinced a Doula is what I needed to achieve a more empowered birth experience after feeling deflated and defeated after the birth of my daughter two years before. What I gained from having Jodee by my side right from 12 weeks is totally invaluable and I’ll never be able to truly express my gratitude.
As my due date got closer being able to talk to Jodee about my fears and anxieties about the birth really helped let go of any stress and made me more excited about going into labour every day.
During my labour Jodee worked so instinctively with me that I never needed to ask for anything, she knew exactly when I needed massage and when I didn’t, got heat packs and cold flannels. A number of times I had said “I was just about to ask for that” It was so wonderful not having to think and communicate my needs when the pain was taking over, I could remain totally focused on my job.
Jodee even managed to take photos of me working through early contractions with my husband and also take the most memorable photos of my baby entering the world and my first cuddle. There are no words to express how important these photos are to me.
Afterwards Jodee was by my side while I was getting cleaned up so my husband was free to enjoy his new son. It was so wonderful to have someone there by my side, during my first birth it was this stage I felt alone while my hubby was looking after the baby. Throughout the whole pregnancy, birth and now a mother to a newborn, Jodee has helped me empower myself and I discovered a strength I never knew I had. I feel I can take on anything now and I am enjoying my beautiful baby boy more than I could have imagined. If I do decide to have a third child one thing is for sure, I wouldn’t do it without Jodee by my side again. Cynara (March 2009)
I had chosen Jodee as my doula, as I met her at a baby expo she was involved in. Jodee had a very approachable easygoing manner. In our meetings before my birth Jodee discussed many different topics with me and helped reassure me that the nervousness and worry I was feeling toward my labour was normal. Jodee helped reassure my husband that he was still to play a vital role (he initially didn't want anyone else there) we were both happy with the support, massage, ideas and encouragement Jodee provided at the birth of our son. Jodee was my doula for the early birth of my son Nicholas at 19.3 weeks and I can honestly say that I would not have wanted to have done it without her. She was fantastic, wonderfully supportive not only for me but also for my husband and helped make a sad day into a positive one. When considering how to improve overall health and wellbeing as part of a preconception plan, I decided to try reflexology. Within 1 week of my first session, my sleeping had improved and I felt energised. After 5 weekly sessions my husband and I were delighted to discover we were expecting our first child. I believe reflexology balanced my hormones and helped with relaxation, which aided the successful conception. I had been seeing Jodee since before I was pregnant, but about half way through my pregnancy I was told by my midwife and obstetric doctors that my amniotic fluid levels were far too high and that they would have to drain some, which was extremely scary. So I went to Jodee and explained my situation where she suggested that we try 2 treatments a week till I was due to go back to the hospital 3 weeks later. Amazingly enough by the time I went back my fluid levels were completely back to normal and the high bloodpressure I was suffering was also back to normal. No more worries YAY!!! Jodee is an incredible woman who is always focused on my needs during each session we have. Believe me you owe it to yourself to give her a try. Claire (Sept 2007)
